I take a few days off and boy did
I miss something here...I practically had to wash my eyes with bleach after reading the
OP. I feel like a dodo for believeing some of the things she said but I tend to take most
things at face value. I still will, I won't let one jerk spoil who I am.
Glad she's gone hope she don't meet too many NFBSKers in real offline life because I'd
hate to hear the aftermath of that one.

I'd like to think that I'm
realistic and self-deprecating enough to think that, when I say I've played in front of a
lot of people before, they'd believe me. Trollface, I have no reason to believe that you
were lying about that; in fact, the structure of the argument leads me to believe in
retrospect that Kyoko was the liar (she made her statement after you gave the 6,000 people
figure and I talked about playing in front of 2,000).
I do have to agree that in my experience it was a lot more nerve-wracking to play in front
of small audiences than large ones. Once you get beyond, I don't know, a hundred people or
so, the room fills up and you're playing to a crowd instead of a group of people, if that
makes any sense. Auditions are the worst, at least for me, especially if it's just you in
a room with 2 or 3 critically-minded people.
This is going to come off as mean-spirited, perhaps, but to be honest Kyoko's attitude
sort of led me to believe she was a physically attractive but screwed up young woman. I
mean, she had all the signs: really, really goofy opinions and ideas where she'd get angry
at anyone who disagreed with her (because IRL, guys tend to go along with whatever the
cute girl says), that general "hey! Look at me! Why aren't you looking at me?"
attitude, the whole hanging-out-with-jackass-guys-and-then-turning-lesbian thing (which
reminded me of a stripper I used to know).
Then again, she did watch anime, and as we all know, girls who watch anime are all fat
(it's a JOKE! Put down that hammer!).

with almost platinum blonde/white hair.

Sorry to both meg and Cynestra. By
the time I came to reply the post was a lng time ago and my memory is not what it once
was. I took a guess, and got it wrong.
Johnny, I assumed people would believe me, because I think I've built up a certain level
of trust with people here over the years. However, I had been detecting an attitude of
"Oh, she said she's played in front of 3,000 peopl, so she must be lying", and
that just aint so. They way she said it, and her past record are what makes me believe she
lied, not the fact that she sad it.
And, yeah, you've exactly right, above a certain nuymber of people you're playing to
"a crowd" rather than a lot of individual people who are in one place.

Do we have any real reason to
believe she is a musician? It's like snopesters are saying...ok we've got a pile of lies
about her over here, and we've got a pile of truths about her over here.
How would we know the truths are true?
Is "she" still getting away with her potentially biggest lie? That Kyoko is a
teenage girl?

I must admit whatever else we can
conclude about Kyoko I think she was a she mainly because of her foaming at the mouth
irrational hatred of Brittany Spears. Still I guess if s/he was making up a persona that's
not an unreasonable "quality" to include.

Hey, hey, hey! Don't go
bad-mouthing the liberals, now.
I don't know that she's a teenage girl. But, I get the feeling, from reading her, that
she's a young woman. There are very few male writers writing in the first person for a
female character, that can pull it off for me. I can't even think of an example, right
now. And I really can't put my finger on what it is, but I've noticed it over and over in
novels. Not that they necessarily have difficulty being true to gender in acts, maybe
something about the way they express some things.
Just a gut feeling, really, but I do think she's a young woman. If she's not, then she
fooled me. But, I'm a bit naive on some fronts.
And while it's very possible that she's not a young woman, and that everything she posted
was a farce, calculated for reaction, I don't think so. I think she's just a bit messed
up. YMMV

I think Wally Lamb did a pretty
good job in She's Come Undone. Every time I read it, I'm amazed that a man wrote
it.

Joining Kate in further hijacking

that a guy wrote it. But that's really the only example I can think of.

I almost agree with you. I read
the book and thoroughly enjoyed it. There were times, however, when I felt the character
was paying too much attention to some detail. Though, the culture is foreign to me, so I
let that account for it. You're right that he did a very good job, though.

My thought would be that the
thread has gone so far off topic, and in so many different directions, that the only way
to be truly off topic is to actually be on topic. So anyone discussing the OP would
be hijacking the thread. Bastages.

If you post only to try to
lengthen the thread, snopes may lock it up. I hope we can just let it take its course and
die naturally. It's none of my business, of course, but some of us are having fun with
this thread. Look at all the subjects that have been discussed, subjects that wouldn't
deserve a thread of their own, and some of the humor in this thread has had me almost
weeping. And revelations! Megaira keeps a machete in her cutlery drawer. I don't even have a drawer that big.

We are swinging this thread back
to the topic. We are back to talking about Kyoko.
Ok, put aside the question about "her" gender. Why couldn't Kyoko be 26 years
old?
FWIW, I think Britney is a gorgeous idiot. I would rant about how much I hate her and how
much she annoys me - 5 minutes before I sleep with her. Britney is a sex symbol, not a
love symbol.

I've never performed before 3,000
people -- but I was on national television once, very briefly. Anyone remember the
"Donahue" show, back in the 1970s? I was in the studio audience, and I stood up
and made a comment. Larry Flynt was the guest, and my comment was against obscenity
trials. Larry and his lawyer loved it, but I worried that the group I had come with -- my
MIL's church group -- were going to drag me behind the bus on the trip back.
